European Commission recently updated this document “Guidance document describing the food categories in Part E of Annex II to Regulation (EC) No 1333/2008 on Food Additives”.
The guidance document describing the food categories was elaborated by Commission services after consultation with the Member States’ experts on food additives and the relevant stakeholders.
The descriptions of the categories can be useful for Member State control authorities and food industry to assure correct implementation of the food additives legislation.
This document doesn’t represent the official views of the Commission that doesn’t intend to impart binding legal effect.
Following we describe main changes and additions compared to version 3 of last June:
- Category 1.8 “Dairy analogues, including beverage whiteners” modified adding non-dairy creamers and describing more in detail the products;
- Category 5.2 ”Other confectionery including breath freshening micro-sweets” described more in detail the products;
- New name for category 14.1.5 that now is “Coffee, coffee and chicory extracts, tea, herbal- and fruit infusion; coffee substitutes, coffee mixes and mixes for “hot beverages”. Subcategories 14.1.5.1″Coffee, coffee extracts” and 14.1.5.2 “Other” are now more specified and other products are added.
